Victors Menu

I look forward to Restaurant Week, as it gives me the opportunity to sample some of New York City’s finest restaurants with a prix-fixe menu.  For this excursion, some friends and I visited Victor’s Cafe, a Cuban hot spot that has been serving the theater district since 1963.  Although we had not seen a show, I did notice that Victor’s had a very reasonable after theater menu.

Upon entering Victor’s, our coats were taken, and we met the rest of our party at the bar, where they were enjoying some red sangria and fried plantains.  We were led right to our table, which was nestled between a semi circular couch and a few chairs.  The decor, featuring colorful artwork and bamboo accents, projected the pre-embargo Cuba one might see in an old movie, possibly because the restaurant was only opened a year after the embargo went into effect.  Our waiter quickly procured another pitcher of sangria for the table, and I enjoyed a tasty cocktail while browsing the menu. Edible Manhattan Week

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

edible manhattan week

Just in time for harvest season, Greenmarket and Edible magazines present the first annual Edible Eat • Drink • Local Week to celebrate the farmers, artisans and chefs who fill our bellies, green our region and enrich our lives.

All week long, partner restaurants in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and on the East End will showcase the mouthwatering bounty of local food and drink–as a prix fixe, a special entrée, a dessert, or a pairing with a wine, beer, or spirit made in New York State. At the end of the week, they will make voluntary contributions to Greenmarket, a program of the Council on the Environment of New York City, to benefit its Youth Education Project, which works to teach and nurture the eaters of tomorrow.

While the restaurants at ink48 aren’t open just yet, those who stay in the newly opened Kimpton Hotel will surely be able to partake in some room service during their stay. With two separate restaurants opening up on the ground level, this is destined to be a new dining destination in Midtown West. In addition to this great room service, occupants of the hotel will also be able to indulge in the nighlty weekday wine receptions from 5pm-7pm (a Kimpton standard).

Since we’ve discussed the bottom floor, let’s talk a bit about the rooftop lounge that will be in place.  Overlooking the beautiful island of Manhattan and the Hudson River, you’ll be sipping on some of your favorite drinks, taking in the sights and enjoying your choice of breakfast, lunch or dinner.

We’ll keep our eyes peeled for the opening of these two fine dining establishments and will let you know as soon as they are accepting reservations.

2009 NYC Wine and Food Festival (October 8-11)

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Nycwinefood2009smallWe’re proud to be a media sponsor of the 2009 Wine and Food Festival being held in NYC on October 8th-11th.  If you’ve never been to this event before, it’s exactly as it sounds; a wine and food festival featuring some of the best foods and drinks in this part of the land.  Food Network is a title host and it is not surprising that a slew of programming stars are set to take the stage this year to host portions of the event.  We went to this event last year and had a blast.

You can also take great pride in attending these events as it is organized by and for Food Bank For NYC a non-profit determined to eradicate Food Poverty. To learn more about the event or to simply donate, click on through to their website to find out how you can help.
